Dear Parent/Guardian,

Social studies is now a 4 year requirement at Milford High School.  In addition,   students must pass the Social Studies DSTP  in order to receive their diploma.   Your student may be enrolled in  World History”  "Civics" and/ or “American History”.   For each class I have created a introduction site for you to understand what we are learning in class   AND a link to a “Classroom Calender /Agenda.”       In the “Classroom Calender/Agenda  sites,    you can find out what chapter we are reading,   what notes  are expected to be complete,  due dates of assignments and tentative dates of quizzes, tests and projects.    BOOKMARK   your site!   It will make great dinner conversation when   you know what we are learning in class.    You can visit each of the sites by returning back to my home site and choosing the course you or your student is enrolled.

Education is a hot topic in Delaware and with the implementation of our State Standards as graduation requirements, teachers, administrators and schools will be eager to search for ways to help your student be as successful as possible.  A proven key to student success is parent/teacher/student communication, and you will find this as a strength I have to offer you and your student.  Gradebook assignments are kept on computer and individualized reports can be printed in a manner of minutes and mailed, emailed or faxed for you and your student’s review. Students will be receiving copies throughout the semester.

As technology has transformed our lives, it also has become an integral part of our classrooms. In class, students will be given the opportunity create and receive instruction with power point presentations.  Furthermore, all students will be allowed supervised access to the Internet and will learn curriculum   content  (supervised) on the Web.   If you would like to learn more about what is going on in class, please visit Open House on October 4th or visit anytime convenient to you at www.gpikus.freeservers.com/.    Weekly agendas, assignments and classroom policies will be posted on the web page.

You may also email me at   gpikus@mail.milford.k12.de.us .      Please keep this email and feel free to contact me at anytime.   It is so much easier to return   an email and provide you with detailed progress.

Looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,
Gretchen L. Pikus ,  NBCT
